Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Peer Support Specialist III (Recovery) for the Community Outreach Services of Rutgers, University Behavioral Health Care.
The Peer Support Specialist III (Recovery) is a member of the Support Team for Addiction Recovery (STAR) Program. who will provide non-clinical recovery support services for individuals with opioid use disorders (OUD). The Peer Support Specialist III (Recovery) uses lived experience and basic peer support skills to engage and empower individuals served to support their wellness. Offers insight into the experience of living with a mental and/or substance use disorder and relevant recovery supports in order to assist staff in identifying program environments and treatment approaches that are conducive to recovery.
Among the key duties are the following:
Maintains relationships with the individual in order to assist him/her in the treatment engagement and recovery process.
Visits individuals served in their home throughout the county as per schedule developed with supervisor.
Applies effective communication skills when interacting with individuals served, team and family supporters.
Participates in setting objectives for each goal and collaborates to determine recovery and wellness supports.
Educates individuals served, on how to navigate treatment, social services and recovery support systems.
Links individuals served to community and self-help resources, services, and supports.
Works collaboratively with STAR team members to ensure the individual engages in services.
Maintains appropriate records, as mandated, by University Behavioral Health Care policy and applicable accrediting organization standards.
Minimum Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent.
At least three years of experience in the guiding principles of recovery.
Must be certified or eligible for certification as a Peer Support Specialist or Family Advocate. If not certified, documented demonstrated progress toward completion of Peer Support Certification within 12 months is required.
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
Experience with community based service provisions to adults with addictions.
Bilingual skills (Spanish/English).
Must attend a three day Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) State mandated training that delineates peer role functions, competencies, responsibilities and includes an orientation to DMHAS multiple treatment initiatives.
