The assistant will participate in projects involving growth modeling to account for individual variability, development of a fish production prediction model across large spatial regions, stock assessment methods, harvest policy analysis, and management strategy evaluations, will participate in the preparation and delivery of on-line and short-courses on quantitative fisheries methods, and assist in preparing/editing reports to funding organizations and articles for peer-review publication. Position is expected to start 1/2020.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in the statistics/fisheries science or related discipline; three to five years work experience where job duites were heavily focused on statistical analysis/modeling of fishery-related issues, overseeing research projects, performing specialized difficult analytical and research techniques, and designing research experiments in an area related to research being performed; may require software specific to the area of research; or an equivalent combination education and experience.
An MS in statistics/fisheries science or related discipline for which coursework was focused on statistical methods, biometry, or ecological modeling will count towards two years of work-related experience.Familiarity with fish growth models, generalized linear modeling, hierarchical modeling, Bayesian inference, and sampling/experimental design is required.Previous experience or familiarity with analyzing or designing creel surveys, mark-recapture/tag-recovery studies, and/or developing fishery stock assessment models is desired.Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated interest in engaging agency personnel and stakeholders at the interface of technical analysis and resource management.
