Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume) :
Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher degree) . Two (2) years experience in installing and handling artworks that include art museums, art galleries, art fairs and/or related venues. Demonstrated experience safely using hand tools that may include drills, hammers and levels; ladders and carts.
Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher degree) in studio art, art history or art education. Additional years (3+) experience in installing and handling artworks that include art museums, art galleries, art fairs and/or related venues. Experience in Asian art and culture.
Brief Description of Duties:
Incumbent will be responsible for installing and handling artwork that may be fragile and used in a variety of educational and informative settings. Responsibility includes installation of exhibitions at Stony Brook University art galleries that may include Charles B. Wang Center, Zuccaire Gallery, and Simon Center Art Gallery under the direction of gallery directors. Successful incumbent will have excellent communication skills and proven problem solving abilities. The successful incumbent will have demonstrated knowledge and ability to effectively handle fragile and sensitive art objects.
Install and maintain exhibitions for the season. Install signage and graphics. Assist in the delivery and handling of artworks. Inform the Director on inventory of supplies to insure proper materials are available to complete requested work. Maintain work area in a neat and orderly fashion. Safely manage project related large equipment and hand tools.
Handles multiple priorities and related clerical/administrative duties with a high degree of accuracy and organization skills to ensure that projects are completed within schedule.
Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.
This is a part time appointment. FLSA Nonexempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.
Please note that the position requires lifting, pushing, pulling, unpacking and carrying items aided and unaided by dollies and carts within a continuous and repetitive basis.
