Job Description Summary

The Translational and Correlative Studies Laboratory (TCSL) Research Specialist C will serve as the dedicated Â technician for the Nanostring GeoMx DSP instrument and the nCounter instrument. The GeoMx DSP is a cutting edge technology used to generate high-plex protein and RNA expression data in morphological context from FFPE slide material. This assay pipeline will be used to interrogate human tissue samples from trials of cellular immunotherapy for cancer, infectious disease and autoimmune disease, and possibly tissues from animal models of disease. This individual will be trained by the instrument vendor, and work with Penn colleagues to establish this assay pipeline, validating assays, developing procedures, preparing report templates and documentation, and writing SOPs. After establishment of the assay platform, this position will be responsible for the execution of DSP assays on tissue samples supplied by CCI investigators, collaborators and other sources. This staff member will be responsible for the operation, calibration, and maintenance of both instruments. In addition, this individual will work with the vendor to extend and customize the panels, markers and applications in response to the scientific needs of investigators and clients as the DSP technology matures.
Finally, this individual will contribute to the daily operation of the laboratory, including the processing and bio-banking of human samples from numerous clinical trials supported by the TCSL, including LIMS entries.
Bachelor's degree in biological sciences and 3-5 years academic or clinical or industry laboratory work or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. Minimum 2 yearsâ™ expertise with immunohistochemistry/in situ hybridization/microscopy techniques.
Experience with human and/or animal sample handling: blood, bone marrow aspirate, tissues, fluids.
Experience with processing pathological specimens for analysis.
Experience with LIMS, GCLP, GMP or clinical laboratory practices.
Familiarity with biostatistics and/or bioinformatics.
