Qualifications required: Doctor of Philosophy or Doctor of Education with specialization in philosophy of education or social cultural foundations of education; experience with multiple subject teacher preparation programs in a university setting; familiarity with California Commission for Teacher Credentialing (or similar) guidelines. Applicants should have demonstrated leadership skills and demonstrated achievements in developing and implementing program plans as well as demonstrated experience working with professional organizations related to K-8 education. Applicants should also demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching and other comparable experience. Ability to work well in collaborative settings is essential to success.
Qualifications preferred: Preference will be given to candidates who possess one or more of the following:
research expertise and experience in multicultural education, including an intersectional approach to issues of race, sexism, gender, and sexuality
experience teaching/working in Grades TK-8 in schools characterized by cultural and linguistic diversity
proficiency teaching in Spanish
evidence of working for social justice, educational equity, and multilingualism
experience with differentiation and use of a range of pedagogical strategies to support culturally, academically, and linguistically diverse student populations
Advising and leadership duties related to coordinating the Liberal Studies Teacher Preparation BA Program (LSTP)
Monitoring curricular and policy developments at the University that affect teacher preparation programs
Teaching General Education and pre-professional courses in which students gain field experience, learn theories of education, and are exposed to various narratives and histories of education, including education and inequality in the US
Teaching other courses in the Humanities Department, such as the upper division writing course or senior seminar
Navigating the world of K12 education on and off campus
Pursuing an active research career in one’s area of specialization, inclusive of the diverse K12 educational landscape of the City of San José in which the campus resides
Committee work and department service are expected
Salary Range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience. Start Date: August 13, 2020 Eligibility: Employment is contingent upon proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
