The Department of Medicine in collaboration with The Kidney and Vascular Innovation Program within the UNC Kidney Center is recruiting for a Research Assistant Professor. The Kidney and Vascular Innovation Program is a multi-disciplinary and translational program which addresses the clinical problems of vascular access dysfunction and cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in patients with kidney diseases. The program comprises basic and translational science, technology development, clinical outcomes and public policy domains. The successful candidate will lead the basic and translational science and technology development modules of the program which focus on uremic vascular biology. Research techniques that will be used include large and small animal models of both kidney failure and vascular injury (arteriovenous fistulae/grafts/catheters/angioplasty). The successful candidate will ideally have both a doctoral degree and experience of large and/or small animal surgery (although extensive training in vascular surgery will be provided). Leadership skills in the context of a laboratory setting, and the ability to work with and coordinate diverse groups of academic and industry partners is essential. Veterinarians are strongly encouraged to apply and a joint appointment with the Department of Comparative Medicine is available. For veterinarians there will be an opportunity to provide mentorship and training within our American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ACLAM)-recognized training program in laboratory animal medicine. This is a new program that is starting under the leadership of Dr. Prabir Roy-Chaudhury who is the Co-Director of the UNC Kidney Center and will provide an exciting building and leadership opportunity for the successful candidate.
