Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Staff Nurse for the department of Pediatrics at the Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
The Staff Nurse (Pediatric Populations), in collaboration with physicians, nursing staff, and other members of the healthcare team, oversees, coordinates, and provides focused, episodic care to Robert Wood Johnson Medical Group patients. The position is a shared resource and will provide 50% FTE for Adolescent Medicine and 50% FTE for Pediatric Nephrology. Coverage percentages can change at the discretion of the Chair's office. This care encompasses health promotion, health maintenance, or management of health-related problems that is delivered in face-to-face or telephone encounters. Additional responsibilities include: delegation, direction, and supervision of the activities of Robert Wood Johnson Medical Group LPNs and non-nursing clinical staff to meet the needs of Robert Wood Johnson Medical Group patients.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Explains procedures and treatments to patient to gain cooperation, understanding and allay apprehension.
Responsible for assisting with patients who are medically complex and/or have sensitive medical or social issues.
Reviews plan of care, medications/tests with physicians as needed.
Contacts pharmacy for prescription renewals for patients.
Documents all patient correspondence and correspondence with other pertinent health care providers.
Responds to life saving situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures and protocol.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with a license to practice in the State of New Jersey as a Registered Nurse (RN required).
Must have at least two (2) years of pediatric experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The ability to function in a team environment.
Basic word processing and computer skills.
Pediatric Acute Care experience.
Pediatric Nephrology and/or Adolescent Medicine experience.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Position requires standing to 2/3 of the time, walking to 2/3 of the time, requires sitting to 2/3 of the time, use of the hands to finger, handle or feel to 2/3 of the time, reach with hands and arms over 1/3 of the time, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl under 1/3 of the time, talk or hear over 2/3 of the time. Position requires lifting 1/3 of the time up to 10 pounds, and under 1/3 of the time up to 25 pounds.
