Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Clinical Laboratory Facilitator for the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Department at the Rutgers, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
The primary purpose of the Clinical Laboratory Facilitator is to perform federal and state surveys of NJ clinical laboratories or Blood Banks in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid services (CMS) and the NJ state laboratory/blood bank licensing regulations related to surveillance of the laboratories or blood banks to ensure accurate and quality tests for patients.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Prepares technically accurate and grammatically correct survey reports and correspondence in a timely manner and uses the federal Aspen database as appropriate and/or the CLIS Laboratory or Blood Bank licensing databases.
Reviews plans of correction (POC) for the deficiencies cited during the survey to determine whether it is acceptable and to obtain additional documentation when necessary for unacceptable POCs to achieve compliance.
Ensures that survey records are accurate and complete in anticipation of the CMS State Annual Performance Review by federal staff by operating in accordance with the CLIA regulations and Standard Operating Manual.
Ensures that laboratories participate in proficiency testing programs and reviews reports to ensure that laboratories or blood banks perform satisfactorily and in compliance with both federal and state regulations.
Informs CLIA survey scheduler to schedule facilities with serious condition level deficiencies for revisit to determine compliance. Works with Licensing Supervisor to discuss serious deficiency reports as well as to coordinate efforts and findings between all parties.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Science (MLS/MT).
Five (5) years of experience as a MLS/MT in specialties including but not limited to blood banking, chemistry, microbiology, hematology, immunology, and cytology in a private/public/hospital clinical laboratory and/or blood center.
A Master's Degree in Medical Technology or related field may be substituted for one (1) year of indicated experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Possess a valid driver’s license, and the ability to operate a vehicle is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Position requires standing, walking, sitting, use of the hands to finger, handle or feel, talk and hear 2/3 of the time, reach with hands and arms over 1/3 of the time, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl under 1/3 of the time. Position requires lifting 1/3 of the time up to 10 pounds, and under 1/3 of the time up to 25 pounds.
Candidate must successfully complete a Criminal Background Check, which includes fingerprinting, performed by the Department of Health.
