Reporting to the Executive Director, System Revenue Cycle, the Director, Patient Access is responsible for the financial clearance center which manages referrals and authorizations, admitting, inpatient central authorization, ED and radiology registration and financial counseling.
Possesses thorough knowledge and understanding of the impact of Patient Access on downstream processes including charge capture, coding, billing, payment posting, refund processing, collections, and denials management. Ensures processes are compliant with all state and federal regulations. Stays current on regulations and industry trends.
The Director actively participates and collaborates with other senior leaders and managers to establish strategic plans and objectives, which also includes collaboration with other UC Health campus leaders. Is also a subject matter expert and leader in system and process development to ensure optimization of patient access and the revenue cycle.
Leads cross functional teams to bring organizational improvement. Makes significant decisions and ensures achievements of targets and objectives. Develops and sustains revenue cycle systems that are in compliance with organizational goals, values, and mission.
Bachelor's Degree in business, healthcare administration or related area; and/or equivalent combination of experience and training.
A minimum of eight (8+)or more years of relevant experience in Patient Access, ideally within a large, complex health system.
Experience and proven success in healthcare revenue cycle operations, concepts, and policies and their impact throughout the organization. In-depth understanding of related functions and issues, including coding, registration, billing, reimbursements, aging accounts, contractual adjustments, and charge capture.
Advanced Degree in health administration or relevant area.
Five (5+) or more years of managerial (or higher level) healthcare leadership experience including oversight of Patient Access.
Substantial experience with EPIC EMR.
Experience in an academic health system or medical center.
Lean or similar certification.
Demonstrated success leading/implementing change.
Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
