The Department of General Nursing, Health Promotion & Disease Prevention at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center invites applicants for a full-time non-tenure track, Assistant Professor and Assistant Dean of Student Affairs position.
This position is responsible for providing leadership for the admission and recruitment efforts of the College of Nursing. It also provides leadership for student activities and oversees the scholarships and awards functions of the college.
Admissions and Recruitment
The Assistant Dean of Student Affairs manages the daily operations of Student Affairs to ensure effective recruitment strategies are employed to attract highly qualified applicants to the CON programs and develops efficient admissions procedures to facilitate processing of student applicants, and subsequent enrollment of students.
This office provides mentorship to nursing affiliated student organizations.
Develops processes in conjunction with University Student Affairs/Enrollment Services, Financial Aid, and College of Nursing Academic Affairs to provide efficient and effective application processes.
Updates admissions and application information on the website.
Manages the electronic application database.
Counsels prospective applicants.
Analyzes applications to determine competitiveness.
Oversees applicant data preparation for faculty review and scheduling of interviews; facilitates the Admissions Committee; and communicate admissions decisions to applicants.
Plans, coordinates, and executes recruitment activities, including the development and distribution of recruitment materials and advertisements, in conjunction with Recruiter (Coordinator) and Dean. Prepares presentations, webinars, posters, and other materials for open houses, conferences, career fairs, and other recruitment events.
Responds to applicant queries regarding programs.
Develops travel recruitment schedule to maximum recruitment of highly qualified applicants to the College of Nursing's Academic Programs.
Budgetary responsibilities include developing and adhering to a budget for recruitment activities (materials, brochures, travel, & advertisement).
Provides leadership for student activities including orientation, Student Government Association, and Honor Council.
Recommends scholarship allocations to incoming and current students based on award criteria to Awards Committee.
Communicates scholarship award notifications to the Financial Aid Office and students.
Solicits nominations for awards and forwards recommendations to Awards Committees for final selection.
Participates in Student Events and Academic Ceremonies (Commencement, Convocation, White Coat, etc.)
Oversees collection of survey data from alumni for grants, traineeships, & accreditation reports.
Provides data analyses regarding application and enrollment trends.
Scholarship and Service
Produces scholarship as a faculty member, including publications, presentations, HRSA grants and other appropriate grant funding submissions.
Participates in service to the college, university, and community as a faculty member
This position directs and manages admissions operations of the College of Nursing Office of Student Affairs, including supervision of staff involved in these functions.
Teaching assignment provided by the Department Chair as appropriate. Academic rank is based upon academic credentials.
Earned doctoral degree from an accredited university required.
Current RN license in Tennessee.
A minimum of 5-6 years' experience in an academic higher education environment with 2-3 years of formal academic leadership experience.
Excellent written and oral communications skills, analytical skills, and organizational skills.
Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with people from all backgrounds.
Demonstrated commitment to teamwork.
Proficient computer/technology skills with preference given to those having experience with "CAS" systems (NursingCAS, PharmCAS, etc.)
