The Weekend Supervisor & Access Services Specialist is solely responsible for managing and supervising all aspects of departmental policies, procedures, and processes on weekends. S/he opens the department both days and is the primary, and, for many weekend hours, only full-time Library employee in the building on weekends. The incumbent is responsible ensuring the department meets patron needs by providing preeminent services, collections and space, as well as supervising student workers at the Circulation Desk, in the Stacks, and in InterLibrary Loan Units on the weekends. Reporting directly to the Circulation Desk/Course Reserves Supervisor, the Weekend Supervisor & Access Services Specialist has additional duties that include but are not limited to:
Access Services Department Weekend Operations Management
Manages Access Services departmental operations on Saturday and Sunday scheduled shifts.
Trains, supervises, and monitors the work of approximately 2.5 FTE hours of Circulation Desk/Course Reserves, CLS, ILL and Stacks Services student workers.
Interprets and explains library policies to users, facilitating access to the library's collections.
Answers questions about library services and resources at the Circulation Desk and by phone, email, and online chat.
Assigns tasks and directs student workers on special projects.
Serves as primary contact with Georgetown University Police Department (GUPD) to resolve weekend entrance issues with building, security, and medical emergencies that occur within Lauinger and Blommer libraries.
Serves as the backup supervisor for study carrel and locker distribution, becoming the weekend contact person for any issues or questions related to carrels and lockers.
Access Services Units Support
Processes requests for print, streaming media, and electronic reserve materials.
Explains reserve services policies and procedures accurately and clearly.
Coordinates the return of personal copies placed in reserves to faculty at end of semesters.
Compiles and maintains reserve statistics for book, e-reserve, and media reserves.
Retrieves library materials for paging, consortium loan, interlibrary loan, and course reserve requests, as well as library materials identified for transfer to off-campus storage.
Assists with faculty office delivery, and other projects as needed.
Processes ILL and Consortium Loan Service borrowing and lending book and article requests.
Explains Consortium Loan Service and non-consortium Interlibrary Loan policies and procedures accurately, clearly, and concisely to users.
Professional Development and Contributions
Serves on Library committees and task forces, participating in meetings and departmental planning.
Provides constructive input for enhancements to services or revisions to policies and procedures to Department Head.
Seeks new knowledge and updates skills to enhance performance in all areas of responsibility.
Serves as backup to other positions as necessary, undertaking special projects and performing other duties as assigned.
2 years' library experience, preferably in an academic setting
Demonstrated familiarity with the role of academic libraries meeting the information needs of students, faculty, and staff
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrated successful experience working with the public, and supervising employees, particularly students
Demonstrated sound judgment when interpreting policies and explaining procedures
Ability to work both independently with little supervision as well as in a team environment
Ability to set priorities, make decisions on complex matters and meet deadlines
Experience with MS Office, integrated library systems, and Google Sheets
Experience with course management system and streaming media software
