Computational biology is a critically important and growing field that is essential to biomedical research. The Computational Biology Department at Carnegie Mellon is part of our internationally-recognized School of Computer Science, and draws upon the incredible energy and expertise in the entire School. It is an ideal place to be educated in this essential discipline.
We are seeking a Part-time Staff Instructor to assist with laboratory automation in the Computational Biology lab courses. As a Staff Instructor, you will assist our Teaching Faculty with design, preparation and delivery of material for these courses.
Core responsibilities include:
Preparing samples and equipment for laboratory sessions
Improving and/or designing laboratory exercises making use of laboratory automation, including development of protocols and writing of software
Monitoring equipment and scheduling repair or maintenance as necessary
Grading homework, quizzes, test and papers as applicable. Deciding grades and entering grades into online system
Delivering course content and instructing students and other duties as assigned
2+ years of technical experience with laboratory automation equipment
2+ years of laboratory experience in molecular biology
ability to make instrument adjustments from floor to ceiling levels and in tight quarters
Experience programming in Python and/or Matlab preferred
Experience with mammalian cell culture preferred
