The Transportation Services department is searching for a Transportation Manager to join our team. We are looking for a leader who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment. This is a new position and will report to the Director of Parking and Transportation. Primary job duties include the leadership, management, and supervision of transportation staff and operations in a unionized environment. Successful candidates should have in depth knowledge of transportation, bus and shuttle services, department of transportation regulations, compliance requirements, and working knowledge developing routes, operational procedures, and recommendations associated with the needs of Carnegie Mellon University's campus.
Core responsibilities will include:
Shuttle & Escort Operations Management
Leading, managing, and supervising staff. Scheduling and monitoring work assignments and schedules in accordance with established practices, university policies, and the bargaining unit contract and practices;
Ensuring compliance with the bargaining agreement. Resolving first level grievances and/or participating in grievance meetings as necessary, working with Human Resources to ensure the appropriate steps are followed;
Ensuring compliance with Department of Transportation and other regulatory and compliance requirements;
Implementation of Training Programs as required to maintain safe, efficient and effective transportation program;
Understanding and implementing DOT regulations including incident review and regulatory compliance; and
Developing and providing recommendations regarding expansion and improvement of the University's shuttle program.
Transportation Systems Management
Managing and coordinating Pittsburgh Port Authority transportation agreement;
Collaborating with both university and external stakeholders to develop and maintain positive communications and work environment;
Supporting non-traditional and evolving transportation systems including Zip cars, scooters, bicycles, etc.;
Maintaining records as required to support coordination of transportation during emergencies, and providing requested information in the event of accidents;
Working with Director to establish and maintain overall operational goals for the transportation program and clearly define and carry out operational objectives and standards; and
Creating and maintaining transportation operations strategic plan.

Bachelor's degree required, preferably in management, business administration, logistics or operations management; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Minimum five years of relevant leadership and management experience with transportation programs required, including administrative and supervisory experience; experience managing staff covered under a collective bargaining agreement highly desired.
Demonstrated experience leading a team focused on complex, customer service delivery, preferably in a college or university setting.
Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a passenger endorsement required.
