This position is a dual role that encompasses project management (80%) and genetic counseling (20%) to support the work of our Clinical Genetics Service . The Clinical Genetics Service at MSK helps individuals to understand their risk for disease. We offer state of the art genetic counseling and testing and can assist individuals (affected or unaffected) and families who are at risk for inherited cancer predispositions to make informed medical decisions.
You will: Act as an advocate and coordinator, working with internal stakeholders (e.g. physicians, designers, strategists) to initiate, manage, and drive innovation focused projects within Clinical Genetics. Provide information, counseling and support to individuals (affected or unaffected) and families who are at risk for inherited cancer predispositions. This involves analyzing pedigrees for possible cancer predisposition syndromes, assessing risk for specific types of cancer, interpreting information, coordinating genetic testing, identifying at-risk family members, reviewing available options for prevention and surveillance and making appropriate referrals.
For the project management function:
Has experience working within and leading interdisciplinary teams to ideate and design new initiatives that optimizes existing process flows.
Has experience in the practical aspects of project management methods focused on planning, goal setting, and prioritizing work to meet deadlines and deliverables
An effective communicator, both written and through prepared presentations, who can engage and reach different audiences
Has enthusiasm, patience and a positive attitude.
Has experience in developing or using digital technologies to enhance patient and staff experiences
For the genetic counseling function:
Has experience analyzing patient histories.
Facilitates genetic testing.
Has experience performing genetic risk calculations.
Educates families about potential health risks.
Helps patients to cope with a diagnosis.
A Masters degree in Human Genetics
ABGC Board Eligibility or Board Certification
4-7 years experience in providing genetic counseling services
2-4 years experience in project management
Experience with using innovative technologies (tele-medicine, health apps, etc.) in clinical and patient settings
Additional, but not required
Understands or has a strong interest in human centered design or design thinking
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
