This HIM Clinical Coder will be responsible for:
Assigning diagnostic and procedural codes to Inpatient medical records.
Reviewing medical records for the determination of accurate assignment of all documented diagnoses and procedures as well as extracting data from specified data elements.
Utilizing grouper software to calculate appropriate DRG for hospital reimbursement.
Abstracting and entering coded data for statistical and reporting requirements.
Utilizing coding resources as tools to ensure coding compliance.
Communicating documentation improvement opportunities and coding issues to appropriate personnel for follow up and resolution.
Meeting coding and abstracting quality and productivity standards.
Adhering to American Health Information Management Association Code of Ethics.
To qualify, you must have:
The level of knowledge typically acquired through completion of two (2) years of occupationally specific education or an Associate's Degree in Medical Records/Health Information Management or a closely related field and no previous coding experience plus 3-6 months of time on the job.
The analytical skills to resolve problems that require the use of basic scientific, mathematical, or technical principles.
Previous work experience in an acute hospital setting and knowledge of coding using ICD-10 and CPT-4 coding conventions.
Prior computer experience; knowledge of 3M Coding System and/or Dolbey Fusion CAC and or Epic.
The ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and provide empathy in difficult interpersonal situations.
