Seeking a Research Specialist D to work as part of a clinical and molecular microbiology research and manufacturing laboratory. Candidate will be processing human and environmental swabs collected as part of a federal grant according to the duties described below. Position will potentially oversee work-study students and part-time laboratory technicians. Duties include but not limited to laboratory oversight and management tasks including training other lab technicians and undergraduates, maintenance of supplies, equipment and generated data; Regulatory - writing and management of standard operating procedures, maintaining compliance with regulatory standards, managing critical documents pertaining to the clinical study, operating within a quality control and/or quality assurance capacity; Â Â Â Manufacturing duties include the development, improvement and carryout of manufacturing procedures and testing methods. Bacterial culture including maintenance of strains, sub-culturing, & freezing clinical isolates, and antimicrobial susceptibility testing. Also, perform techniques for sample processing (pipetting, vortexing, aliquot, and centrifugation) of human and environmental samples for identification of bacterial colonies; specimens can include anatomic samples (e.g., stool, urine, skin, respiratory) as well as environmental samples. Perform molecular techniques including PCR, DNA isolation from bacteria, restriction enzyme digestion, gel electrophoresis, DNA amplification by the polymerase chain reaction, DNA sequencing, assay development. General laboratory duties including reagent preparation, ordering supplies, basic lab cleaning and maintenance, preparing organism isolates and clinical samples for shipment; maintaining a daily lab notebook; Organizing results into a REDCap database and an Excel spreadsheet
Master's Degree and 3 to 5 years work experience or equivalent combination of years and experience required.
