Perform complex and varied technical work designing and supporting the operation of the Universityâ™s wireless infrastructure. Perform configuration management, planning, and optimization of the major components of that infrastructure, including APs, controllers, and network access control appliances. Develop strategies for implementing changes to the wireless networks on campus, including coordination with various stakeholders to periodically phase out existing solutions in favor of newer ones and to improve the reliability, security, flexibility, and usability of that service for the entire University community across the main campus and several other sites. Play a key role on a highly technical engineering team that tracks advancements in new networking technology and provides reports on findings; establish standards and evaluates hardware and software products for use in the wireless network infrastructure. Translate business requirements into network or process designs and recommend changes. Plan and recommend network hardware and systems management software. Approve and modify network design and architecture to ensure compliance. Provide technical oversight in equipment evaluations and recommendations of new products. Maintain expert level knowledge of emerging technologies for application to the enterprise; benchmark across industry. Will, at times, take over troubleshooting network problems that are already in progress from first shift, second shift, or from On-Call personnel. Will be required to carry a phone during off-hours and provide second-tier wireless networking support.
Bachelorâ™s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science and a minimum of four years of experience with network protocols and wireless technologies or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Aruba experience preferred. Experience with configuration management, planning and optimization of enterprise and wireless networks. Self-motivated with creative and critical thinking capabilities. Ability to thrive in a varied environment with multiple competing priorities and initiatives underway and to clearly communicate with peers and technology leadership in an authoritative and collaborative way.
