Responsible for communications to the media, including preparing articles, press kits, press releases and other content initiatives, cultivates and manages relationships with media representatives.
Work closely with A&M University - San Antonio leaders, System leaders and communications personnel at member institutions to develop a media relations strategy.
Establish and build relationships with reporters on a city, state, and national level, including trade publications.
Collaborate with the Executive Director of Markeitng Communications, to promote stories and content.
Write or produce necessary materials, including press releases, speeches, scripts for video and podcasts, brochures and other publications.
Maintain the primary portfolio supporting the Texas A&M University - San Antonio, President
Leverage system and university relationships with media partners.

Coordinate and lead efforts to increase awareness and understanding of the foundation's mission, vision, programs and activities among local, state and national key audiences, such as members of the media, advocates, policy makers, mental health consumers, youth and their families, grantees, mental health professionals, university stakeholders, and nonprofit and philanthropic organizations.
Collaborate with management and staff to maintain a strategic communications plan for the foundation.
Work with management and staff to develop and implement individual communications plans for specific foundation initiatives, programs, events and activities as needed. Anticipate and plan for the foundation's future communications needs, and manage the media relations budget.
Utilizes analytics reports to provide strategic direction concerning improvement of visibility and reach.
Work with management and program staff to produce and update print and digital materials, including an impact report, brochures and publications for specific programs and initiatives. Research, write and edit content for print materials and manage the design, production and distribution process. Identify opportunities to promote print materials using online media. Serve as the primary media contact. Initiate contact and develop working relationships with media as appropriate. Respond to media requests in coordination with management and program staff. Research, write, edit and distribute news releases, media advisories, opinion columns and feature stories. Prepare talking points and presentations for the executive director on request. Provide editorial services to management and program staff on request for journal articles, meeting agendas, letters, memos, reports and other-related documents. Coordinate responses to inquiries submitted by the public to communications staff.
Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, English, Journalism or related field.
Five years of professional experience in public relations and communications, including writing and editing for websites, social media and print publications.
At least three yearsâ™ experience in managing a strategic communications program, including creating and implementing communications strategies and plans.
At least two yearsâ™ experience in developing and managing content for an organization's online and social media sites.
Master's degree in relevant field. Five to seven years of experience with strategic communications.
At least two yearsâ™ experience in managing or supervising employees; and developing unit budgets and developing unit strategic planning.
Experience working for a University or large academic institution.
Experience with media relations. Demonstrated ability to make complex subject matter accessible and compelling to a range of audiences with varying levels of education.
Experience in graphic design and production for print or online communications.
Familiarity with various media organizations and journalists, in both Texas and the U.S.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Experience in communicating to and working with diverse constituencies.
Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines while producing quality communications materials.
The ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and support diverse internal communications needs.
