The Department of Surgery/Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Stanford University School of Medicine seeks a full-time MD or MD/PhD, Board eligible or Board certified plastic surgeon with special training and interests in gender reconfirmation surgery, education and research. Responsibilities will be at Stanford Hospital and Clinics, Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital, and other Outreach locations. The candidate should have expertise in basic science, clinical or translational research and is expected to apply for or have federal funding for research.This position will be either in the Medical Center Line (MCL) or Clinician Educator Line (CE) at the Assistant Professor level. The compensation will be commensurate with credentials and experience. Academic line will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
The activities of the Division are diverse and include adult and pediatric reconstructive surgery, an active research program with significant extramural funding, and a robust residency program. The breadth of the Division’s clinical and research programs, its participation in Stanford’s multidisciplinary cancer center, and the continued growth of its microsurgery program offer the successful candidate unique opportunities to contribute to our success.

The major criteria for appointment for faculty in the Medical Center Line shall be excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, clinical teaching, scholarly activity that advances clinical medicine, and institutional service appropriate to the programmatic need the individual is expected to fulfill. Criteria for a candidate appointed at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Medical Center Line are as follows: They will have completed their house staff training and, where appropriate, postdoctoral fellowship training. They must demonstrate excellence or promise of excellence in the overall mix of contributions in clinical care, teaching and scholarly activity that advances clinical medicine appropriate to the programmatic need upon which the appointment will be based. There should be evidence that candidates have the promise to attain regional recognition for excellence in the overall mix of contributions. If these individuals have not had formal teaching experience, they should have demonstrated during their house staff and fellowship training a commitment to teaching, and they should have the potential to meet or exceed acceptable standards in teaching. The major criterion for appointment as Clinician Educators, including Clinician Educators (Affiliated), is excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, teaching, administrative and/or scholarship appropriate to the programmatic need the individual is expected to fulfill.
