The primary responsibility of this essential personnel position is plastering, sheet rock, and water proofing glass work, preparation of surfaces for paints, varnishes, stains at all campus locations. Maintain, decorate and protect surfaces by applying paints, varnishes and/or stains. Perform other related duties within the facilities department as needed.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintain all exterior & interior buildings & grounds surfaces to provide on going superior appearance of all college property.
Prepare all interior surfaces, wood, steel, plaster, and sheetrock for painting varnishing and for stains.
Maintains /selects types of paints, stains, mixes, and blends to color match surfaces to existing colors and materials from blue prints and layouts.
Applies paints, varnish, and/or stains to all types of surfaces in order to protect and beautify such surfaces.
Erects necessary staging following safety standards to gain access to areas requesting work.
Based on assignment, may operate a College motor vehicle, road-line painting machines and sand blasting equipment.
Performs related duties such as printing letters and signs, laying out drop cloths, moving office furniture.
Confers with supervisors regarding the scheduling of work.
Responsible for inventory of paints and painting supplies.
This position is designated as an essential employee. In the event campuses are closed or classes are cancelled, or both due to an emergency or adverse weather conditions, designated essential personnel shall be required for work during the duration of the cancellation.
Perform other related duties within the Facilities Department to ensure efficient operation of multiple campus locations.

SALARY: $42,255.72 per year with benefits. An appointment made from outside the bargaining unit (AFSCME) must start at step #1 of the range or as adjusted in accordance with the AFSCME collective bargaining agreement.

Applicants must have at least one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in painting work, (or) a diploma or certificate from a recognized trade, technical or vocational school at a high school level or higher with a major in painting.
Demonstrated skill in use of hand power tools and painting equipment includes power saws, drills, and chippers.
Knowledge of the proper practices and painting techniques including proper use of stains varnishes paints and proper applications of these materials to the various types of surfaces receiving application.
Knowledge of solvents, chemicals, in the work place including proper safety practices and procedures.
Knowledge of the types and uses of safety climbing equipment including scaffolding lifts and ladders.
Skill in applying paints and other finishes by brush, roller, cloth, and sprayer.
Ability to lift and carry heavy objects, climb and work from ladders, lifts, and staging.
Ability to work in all types of weather for prolonged periods including high areas and areas of confined space.
Ability to work on weekends, nights, and subject to stand by and overtime shifts.
Ability to stand for long periods.
Ability to read and understand the English language as it pertains to labeling on paint and chemical containers.
Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with others.
Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
Candidates will be required to have a Massachusetts class "D", greater motor vehicle operator's license, or out-of-state equivalent. You must present a copy of your driving history record from the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles.
Ability to pass a pre-placement physical.
