Job Summary: The Communications Specialist works with a department or area to develop and implement communication plans and activities to support the goals of a specific department, a college and/or The University.
Additional Department Summary: Working in collaboration with the Division of Strategic Communications, the Communications Specialist is responsible for the creation and support of print, video, and web-based communications that promote and are descriptive of the Honors College and its programs. The position is responsible for developing, organizing, and maintaining text, photo, and video content for the Honors College website; monitoring the day-to-day quality of web content, including making daily updates to the website; and writing, editing, and publishing social media content. Tasks will include writing, editing, and proofreading; editing photos; and designing and executing various targeted communications.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, English, Marketing, or Advertising and one (1) year experience in journalism, public relations, marketing, or communications; OR Master's degree Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, English, Marketing, or Advertising. Related student or Graduate Assistant, Intern, or student oriented experience will be considered. Skills and Knowledge: Experience or familiarity using web software programs, such as Wordpress.
Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, English, Marketing, Advertising, or other closely related field. One or more year of experience writing website content.
