Research Support - Laboratory/Non-Laboratory, Staff/Administrative
Dr. Galit Pelled in the Institute for Quantitative Health Science and Engineering (IQ) at Michigan State University is seeking a Research Assistant II for her lab.The research projects focus on characterizing neural networks in animal models and test new neuromodulation technologies.
Job duties include, but are not limited to:
Performing electrophysiology experiments.
Performing histology and microscopy on tissue.
Caring for animals on a daily basis.
Maintaining proper experimental records.
Overseeing and maintaining health, safety, controlled substances and EHS laboratory records.
Overseeing and maintaining animal care protocols and amendments.
Communicating with the principal investigator and staff concerning the status of the research.
Overseeing students and temporary employees.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated expertise in electrophysiology and related data analysis, experience with animal handling, and animal surgical skills.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in neuroscience or related science field; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in overseeing research projects and laboratory operations, operating and maintaining a variety of laboratory equipment, performing specialized and difficult analytical and research techniques, and designing research experiments in an area related to research being performed; may require software specific to the area of research; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The position may require special licensing or certification in the field related to the area of employment.
Ph.D. in neuroscience or a related field; expertise in electrophysiology and related data analysis, animal handling and animal surgical skills; previous demonstration of administrative duties.
