The Department of General Dentistry at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center invites applicants for a full-time tenure or non-tenure track, Associate/Professor, Department Chair position.
Rank and salary commensurate with background and experience.
Primary responsibilities of this position include:
(1) manage a diverse faculty, staff and student body;
(2) department administration;
(3) faculty and staff development;
(4) develop and manage preclinical and clinical general dentistry educational programs; and
(5) facilitate departmental research and service activities.
The Department is composed of two divisions: General Practice and Operative Dentistry. The Department is also involved in inter-professional education collaboration (IPE).
This position reports to the Dean of the College of Dentistry.
This position also:
Assists and encourages department faculty i n their pursuit of excellence i n teaching.
Prepares cl ass schedul es that meet the enrollment needs of the department and university
Assigns equitable teaching responsibilities to departmental faculty
Initiates a regul ar review and development of the departmental curriculum
Mon i tors and manages student enr ol l ment in departmental programs
Leads the departmental facu l ty i n a regu l ar review of curricu l ar offer i ngs to assure fu l f i l l ment of accreditation requirements, empl oyer expectations, and suitable standards of excell ence
Maintai ns current course contingency plans, syllabi and document content
Coordinates student registration for the department i n conjunct i on w i th Academ i c Dean
Compl etes requests for course and educational technology development
Assists i n the recrui tment of excell ent students i nto the postdoctoral program
Rev i ews a l l peer and student course eva l uations to insure efficacy of i nstruct i on.
I nsures that the facilit i es of the department are i n good repa i r and are avai l ab l e .
DDS/DMD from an ADA accredited dental program or equivalent degree and be eligible for licensure in the State of Tennessee.
Experience with latest dental technologies including CAD/CAM dentistry and established record of research, scholarly activities, and publications in peer-reviewed dental journals.
Excellent interpersonal skills and prior administrative experience in health science education and leadership will be favorably considered.
5-7 years of academic work experience in teaching, service, and scholarly activity, and
Associate or Full Professor at an accredited Dental school
