RISD Dining + RISD * Caters is currently recruiting for Culinary Interns in various RISD Dining locations. We are a self-operating dining department with a dedication to exceptional hospitality, supporting local farms through seasonally-inspired menus, and utilizing the strengths of our staff to provide the absolute best in culinary artistry to our greater community.
The Culinary Arts Intern assists the culinary, catering, and bakery staff in food preparation, execution and service duties in our seasonally-inspired dining venues on campus. Trains on all stations within our dining venues alongside our classically-trained management & supervisory team. Actively participates in a team setting with keen attention to customer service and to culinary and visual detail in support of RISD Dining's mission.
This position is open to students in an accredited program.
Assists in preparation work including gathering mise en place. Clean and prepare ingredients.
Prepares commissary and catering items as assigned.
Setups and breaks down and works various service areas for example but not limited to grill, deli, bakery, pizza, salad, and serving line.
Ensures all health code procedures are followed includes but not limited too; temperature management, personal hygiene, and sanitation.
Maintains cleanliness of storerooms, refrigerators, freezers, cooking & baking areas, and equipment.
Performs other duties, as requested.
High school diploma, GED or equivalent combination of education and experience is required
Exceptional customer service and oral communication skills required
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and ability to take direction from supervisors
Ability to read, write, and follow written procedures
Proven ability to interact with members of the community representing diverse backgrounds and interests
Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
Valued but not required skills and experience:
Serv-safe and/or RI sanitation certification.
Driver's license and ability to drive automatic and standard transmissions.
This is a part-time position. Schedule will be discussed with candidates at time of interview.
