The Senior Research Specialist is a member of the Center for Research and Scholarly Development in the School of Nursing at Vanderbilt University and is a key individual contributor responsible for assisting with data organization and statistical analysis of health data and work in collaboration with VUSN faculty. This position will utilize various methods of quantitative and qualitative analysis to carry out both formative and summative evaluation, related to research data and/or data related to faculty and student outcomes. Reporting directly to the Principal Investigator, the Senior Research Specialist will work in collaboration with VUSN faculty and staff on a daily basis.

The Center for Research Development and Scholarship (CRDS) at Vanderbilt University School of Nursing achieves its mission by fostering a scholarly environment and offering services relevant to our researchers while considering the future directions and needs of science and other resources within the VU system. It works closely to compliment the services provided by VUMC VICTR. Among the current CRDS services available to faculty and postdoctoral fellows:
Support of the Center faculty in the collection, processing, and management of a variety of research data (i.e., manage/structure data files; evaluate data quality and perform data-cleaning operations).
Support of the Center in the collection, processing, and management of a variety of faculty, student- and school-level data; process incoming source data; restructure data files; evaluate data quality and perform data-cleaning operations as needed.
Provide guidance for protocols around data storage and documentation, data security, and systems for maintaining human subjects research records and documentation.
Work collaboratively with VU, VUSN and VUMC biostatisticians and other research specialists.
Performs advanced biometrical statistical analysis and interpretation of statistical data in collaboration with School of Nursing faculty.
Designs and/or develops database platforms.
Provides oversight for implementing efficient computerized research data management systems using commercially available software and hardware.
Profile of an Ideal Candidate
A Master's Degree in public health or biostatistics from an accredited institution of higher education is necessary.
Advanced graduate training in public health or biostatistics is preferred.
At least two years of full-time experience working in an applied health research setting is necessary.
Strong understanding of basic statistical concepts is necessary.
Experience in managing research data in SAS, STATA, SPSS, ACCESS, Qualtrics, REDCap and Excel, including database design, data queries, data cleaning and statistical analysis is necessary.
Demonstrated proficiency in the use of statistical software (STATA, MPLUS, SPSS syntax, R, and/or SAS) and other statistical software is necessary.
Experience with Windows PC, Mac, and UNIX Environments is necessary.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills is necessary.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team is necessary.
Attention to detail and accurate record keeping is necessary.
