Research - Laboratory/Non-Laboratory, Staff/Administrative
A neuropharmacology research laboratory interested in the molecular and cellular basis of complex behaviors seeks a motivated individual interested in facilitating scientific discovery. Primary laboratory duties will include:
40% Candidate will be responsible for directing the care and maintenance of a mouse colony, including weaning new litters, setting up new breeding cages, contributing to the PCR genotyping of mutant strains, and maintaining accurate records related to the disposition of the mice.
30% General lab responsibilities, including ordering laboratory supplies and reagents, cleaning and maintaining lab spaces and equipment, updating laboratory databases and documents (e.g., protocols and training records)
30% Provide hands-on support to ongoing research projects in the lab, including conducting behavioral studies and intracranial genetic and pharmacologic manipulations in mice; these efforts would be conducted under the supervision of experienced laboratory personnel.
Required Qualifications (must be mentioned on application/resume):
BA/BS in the Life Sciences (e.g., Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Neuroscience, Physiology) or equivalent combination of education and work experience to equal four years
Experience working in a biomedical research laboratory
Experience with behavioral studies involving mice and biological sample collection (e.g., tissue harvest)
Excellent communication skills and comfortable working as part of a team
Experience with techniques in molecular biology (e.g., cloning, PCR, DNA/RNA purification, ligations, transformation)
Experience with techniques in histology and/or fluorescence/confocal microscopy
Experience with techniques in cell culture (e.g., maintaining cell lines, establishing primary cultures of neurons or myocytes, and cell transfection)
Experience with website and database management
