This position is located in the phone room in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH) at Oregon State University (OSU). This position is the first contact for veterinary clients. On a daily basis, this position provides customer service on the phone and clerical support within the Veterinary Teaching Hospitals in the Carlson College of Veterinary Medicine. The Veterinary Teaching Hospitals provide primary health care for animals locally and referral care for animals in Oregon and the region, participate in the education of veterinary students through clinical training, develop new diagnostic and therapeutic techniques for veterinary care, and provide consultation service to practitioners and clients.
Six months experience providing health care support in a health care facility; OR Completion of a vocational training program in a health care support area (e.g., Medical Office Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant). NOTE: Preference will be given to those applicants who possess a knowledge of medical terminology.
Good communication and customer service skills.
Ability to respond to multiple needs of a variety of customers in a busy environment and in emergency situations.
Ability to work independently.
This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Criminal History Check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in Youth Programs may have additional Criminal History Checks every 24 months.
This position is located at the front desk which is an extremely busy area of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital.
This position may be exposed to noxious odors and infectious diseases.
This position is required to maintain sanitary conditions in work and client reception areas, which may require cleaning up after animals in client reception area if other staff are not available.
This position may require overtime, evening, and/or weekend work.
This position may be exposed to animal secretions, and suffering or deceased animals, requiring a strong constitution.
