Master's degree and 5 years of related experience; OR a Ph.D. or other professional degree and 2 years of related experience.
Ph.D. in physical sciences or related field at a fully accredited research university. Experience must include research in the area of terahertz spectroscopy of both topological materials and photovoltaic semiconductors. Prior experience and track record using THz pump and THz probe spectroscopy, magneto-terahertz spectroscopy and THz scanning near field optical microscopy. Demonstrated knowledge and experience with cutting-edge ultrafast laser spectroscopy techniques and applying lasers to study optical and electronic properties of materials. Demonstrated knowledge and experience with nonlinear optics, THz generation and detection techniques, and particularly intense THz generation. Experience with building, maintaining, and troubleshooting various laser systems in a broad-spectrum range: UV-VIS-IR-THz. Experience with high vacuum, high magnetic field, and low temperature cryogenic systems. Demonstrated publication record, including publications in high impact journals Related postdoctoral experience.
The Division of Materials Science and Engineering (DMSE) within the Ames Laboratory, is seeking candidates for the position of Associate Scientist.Â Ames Laboratory is a Department of Energy (DOE) funded National Laboratory operated through contractual agreement with Iowa State University.
The Associate Scientist position conceives, designs and conducts studies of topological and photovoltaic materials using terahertz (THz) spectroscopy and microscopy tools.Â The position collaborates with their supervisor and other PIs in the Division of Materials Sciences and Engineering within Ames Laboratory; invents, oversees and performs experiments; interprets the results; presents and defends research at professional meetings; drafts manuscripts for publication with collaborating co-authors; guides and trains students, post-docs and visiting scientists Â in conducting of experiments and the interpretation of results; and writes research proposals for future funding of research projects (as PI or co-PI).Â The duties of this position also include the maintenance and oversight of the daily operation of the state-of-the-art experimental facility including magneto-terahertz spectroscopy, THz pump and THz probe spectroscopy and THz scanning near field optical microscopy. The prior track record and experiences with applying these techniques to both topological materials and photovoltaic semiconductors are required.
The ability to interface with a diverse team of administrative staff and spectroscopy/microscopy professionals, as well as condensed matter experimentalists and theoreticians are also needed for success in this position.
