Manages one staff accountant and is responsible for all duties related to Royalties, Invoicing, Bank Reconciliations, Cash Receipts and Credit and Collections. Also responsible for a number of complex accounting duties relating to journal entries, month end closings and balance sheet reconciliations and analysis. The Assistant Manager, Finance reports directly to the Finance Manager and also assists with the development of automated processes to enhance the effectiveness of the Finance Department.
Responsible for the posting of author advances into the royalty system
Ensure all author contracts are entered into the system
Supervises staff/temps regarding the annual royalty statement project
Work in conjunction with the Sub Rights department to make sure all checks are deposited; all services are invoiced and ensure that the correct authors are paid the correct percentage.
Is the primary contact person who provides high quality customer service to authors and editors regarding the analysis of their royalty accounts and then resolving any discrepancies
Accounts Receivable (20%)
Prepare accounts receivable deposits
Apply the cash receipts to the individual customers accounts
Follow up on outstanding receivables, where necessary
Miscellaneous invoicing of subsidies and consortium management fees
General Accounting (45%)
Create and enter various journal entries
The point person responsible for collecting the bank reconciliations and sending them to the University.
Provide Cost Accountant with all support documents
Reconciles and analyzes balance sheet accounts
Work with Finance Manager on the month end and various special projects.
3-5 years related experience required. Bachelor's degree and /or equivalent related experience required.
Computer software knowledge: Proficiency in Microsoft suite including Excel, Word. Acumen accounting system a plus
Incumbent must be able to work in a deadline driven environment with demonstrated ability to juggle and prioritize multiple, competing tasks and demands and to seek supervisory assistance as appropriate.
