Veterinary Technician II, Small Animal Clinical Sciences
The College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking a Veterinary Technician II to provide intermediate-level nursing care in the Dermatology Service by making patient assessments and preparing patients for procedures. Position records patients' medical histories and symptoms, including observations. Position administers medicine and treatments, establishes plan of care, and operates medical equipment. Incumbent serves as a resource of information and guidance and communicates regularly with dermatology clients and non-clients. Position supports teaching efforts by instructing students, interns, and residents. Provides on-call support to ICU as needed.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities: Provides intermediate-level patient care by scheduling appointments, making patient assessments, and preparing patients for procedures. Collects diagnostic samples and analyzes results. Records patients' medical histories, symptoms, and observations. Administers medicines and treatments. Monitors in-hospital patients. Helps to establish a plan of care and confers with owner. Regularly communicates with supervising Clinician. Operates medical equipment. Collaborates with others to ensure quality patient care is received. Enters charges on patient accounts. Trains new employees. Routinely shares assigned on-call duty for the Small Animal ICU unit.
Supports teaching efforts by supervising and instructing students, interns, and residents in the application of dermatology techniques and procedures. Provides orientation to new students. Provides instruction for 3rd year student dermatology labs.
Prepares and maintains skin testing supplies. Ensures treatment area is organized and stocked with supplies. Maintains database of patient pictures and maintains client and student handouts.
