University of Washington's Laboratory Medicine department has an outstanding opportunity for a temp/hourly, part-time, alternate shift, MESSENGER DRIVER. This position will drive a Motor Pool vehicle to transport laboratory specimens, laboratory reports, supplies and other designated materials between UWMC and medical facilities and laboratories within the greater Puget Sound region.RESPONSIBILITIES:Maintains integrity of specimens transported (frozen, refrigerated, room temperature)Adheres to "universal precaution" procedures for transporting bio-hazardous materialsPrepares/gathers lab supplies and reports to be delivered to clients as requestedCarries a cellular phone and respond to calls promptlyCommunicates in a professional and helpful manner with employees of medical facilities for which courier service is providedMaintains a customer-service focus and attitude, regardless of situations encounteredOccasionally is required to decide on reasonableness of accommodating additional requests for service within assigned shiftMaintains appropriate records of deliveries and specimens transportedKeeps assigned Motor Pool vehicle clean, fuel tank sufficiently full, and maintenance up-to-dateDelivers lab supplies provided to clientsOther duties as assignedREQUIREMENTS:Possession of a valid vehicle operator's license.DESIRED:Experience handling bio-hazardous laboratory specimens and familiarity with universal precautionsExperience with customer service relationsDemonstrated success working independently with minimal supervisionCONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:May work weekends and holidaysWill be required to carry specimen coolers and supplies weighing up to 30 poundsProvision of a Wash.
