The Library Associate I will use OCLC Connexion to download MARC Records, assist with receiving and creating library materials, oversee all physical serials are properly shelved and other related duties.
Use OCLC Connexion to download MARC Records into the Integrated Library system as directed by the Collection Development Librarian.
Assist with the receiving of library materials, supplies and equipment.
Assist with the compiling and reporting of documents, information and statistics pertaining to library purchases.
Help in updating OCLC holding records.
Assist with the creation and updating of bibliographic records.
Assist with the processing of library materials.
Help in checking that there are no broken links to databases.
Help to ensure that links to electronic items in the catalog are functional.
Responsible for overseeing the receiving and check in of serial materials in the Integrated Library System.
Oversee that all the Physical serials are properly shelved.
Oversee that the serials are stripped, stamped
Inform Collection development Librarian regarding Physical serial that have not been received by the library and managing the claiming of issues not received.
Maintain physical serials records and holdings within the library?s Integrated Library System.
Coordinate preparations and shipments for serials to be sent to the bindery or the Joint Library Facility.
Help to maintain statistics and documentation pertaining to serials subscriptions.
Assist with identification of materials to be weeded.
Keep statistics of, and physically prepare items that have been deselected.
Assist with departmental projects and reports.
Assist with the Library assets inventory.
Attend meetings and assist with library events and programs.
Pursue opportunities for professional development, including workshops, conferences, seminars, and specialized training classes.
Supervise student workers.
Serve on library or university committees when called upon.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or GED
Seven years of related experience in a public or academic library or archive
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
Basic working with bibliographic records and knowledge of MARC records.
Experience performing cataloging, serials, or acquisitions tasks within an Integrated Library System.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Ability to adhere to internal standards of work by applying strong attention to detail
Ability to work collaboratively to accomplish goals.
Flexible and ability to adapt and work in a rapidly changing production environment
Knowledge of Windows OS computers and software
Ability to maintain production levels and learn quickly
Initiative in setting priorities
Decision-making or problem solving that requires use of discretionary judgment.
Knowledge ofcataloging standards such as RDA, MARC, Dublin Core
Experience with OCLC Connexion
Experience with current Microsoft Windows, MS Office and internet applications
Experience troubleshooting computers
Ability to lift light objects under 40 lbs.
May occasionally be required to work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.
