About the Opportunity: The International Student and Scholar Advisor is responsible for supporting international students in F-1 and J-1 visa classification and scholars in all aspects of immigration regulations to ensure maintenance of their non-immigrant status and advising them on a wide range of immigration and SEVIS regulations.In the capacity of Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO), assess cases and process a series of SEVIS reportable events and registrations as required by immigration regulations. Follow, guide, and advise international students and scholars on the resolution of issues regarding maintenance of valid non-immigrant status and retaining eligibility for a variety of benefits during or after completion of academic programs. Serve as a contact with key departments such as various graduate, undergraduate and CPS academic advising units across the University pertaining to topics and issues concerning international students' status maintenance, federal regulations, institutional policies and ISSI protocols. Support maintenance of SEVIS compliance content on ISSI web site and update all printed and on-line material in accordance with all relevant federal, state and immigration regulations and/or operative procedures from DHS, US Department of State and University policies. Serve as a resource in committees and working groups for all developments connected to the functionality of SEVIS related systems. Support the PDSO and RO as needed and design and deliver SEVIS/Immigration sessions for F-1 and J-1 students and scholars, workshop and departmental training. Support and participate in ISSI Orientation and cultural programs. Qualifications: Minimum three to six years of experience in the field of international student and scholar advising and specific working knowledge of immigration regulations, specifically applicable to F-1 student and J-1 student and scholar visa classifications and familiarity with most common visa types required. Understanding of SEVIS and US Department of State regulations and protocols required. Good working knowledge of MS Word and Excel and database systems required. Working knowledge of SEVIS batching systems strongly preferred. Knowledge of Banner preferred. Intercultural experiences a plus. BA/BS required, MA/MS in International Education or Intercultural Relations preferred. Able to acquire DSO and ARO which requires US citizenship or Legal Permanent Residency status.
