Description The Pulmonary Services Lab (PSL) is a hospital-based service that supports UC Davis Health System by providing a variety of services to both our inpatient and outpatient clients. The PSL operates the Arterial Blood Gas (ABG) Laboratory. The ABG Lab provides comprehensive blood gas and electrolyte analysis to aid our providers in patient care decision making. The ABG Lab processes greater than 80,000 specimens a year.

Qualifications REQUIRED - Current and valid California Respiratory Care Practitioner License -Registered Respiratory Therapist by the National Board of Respiratory Care. -Current with all mandatory Hospital and Department Competencies. -ACLS and PALS certification -Bachelor's Degree or in progress -Must be familiar with leading industry standards for pulmonary function testing equipment -Experience coordinating and conducting in-servicing on a wide range of pulmonary lab equipment and hardware/software
PREFERRED -Experience working in an academic teaching hospital and in a multidisciplinary environment.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT -Must have physical strength to allow moving of compressed gas cylinders and equipment, be able to stand for extended periods of time, wear lead aprons during procedures and be able to sit and use a computer/monitor for extended periods of time. -Must have excellent verbal and written skills. -Works weekends, holidays and/or variable hours according to department policy. - THIS POSITION MAY BE SUBJECT TO A CRIMINAL BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION, DRUG SCREEN, LIVE SCAN FINGERPRINTING, MEDICAL EVALUATION CLEARANCE, AND FUNCTIONAL CAPACITY ASSESSMENT
Responsibilities The primary duties of this position is to provide technical oversight of clinical care activities and the development, refinement and continuous quality improvement of procedures and policies, evaluation of new diagnostic pulmonary equipment, and assuring appropriate coordination and distribution of staffing and resources. In coordination with Department Managers, responsible for orientation, training, mentoring of new staff in daily Pulmonary Services Lab operations, and with both on-going and new non-invasive research study protocols. Coordinates all unit based CQI processes for non-invasive procedures, and reports findings to PSL CQI committee. Must meet all PSL RT II job description duties.
