This position is open to Family Nurse Practitioners (FNP) or Adult Nurse Practitioners (ANP) only.
The Nurse Practitioner (FNP/ANP) is part of a team of six healthcare providers in the Center for Student Health and Counseling (SHAC). This position provides primary medical care, including assessment, diagnosis, evaluation, treatment, and referral services to the students of Portland State University. In addition to primary care, the Nurse Practitioner provides contraception education, disease management, and evaluation of infectious diseases. This position has the option to participate in after-hours call for additional compensation.
The Nurse Practitioner (FNP/ANP) may perform procedural skills such as IUD insertion, reading X-rays, IV placement, incision and drainage of abscesses, Nexplanon insertion/removal, and minor surgical procedures.
The Nurse Practitioner must be trained and licensed as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) or Adult Nurse Practitioner (ANP), and practice under the regulations set forth by the Oregon Board of Nursing.
-Current Oregon license as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) or Adult Nurse Practitioner (ANP)
-Current BLS/CPR/AED certificate
-Current good standing with the Oregon State Board of Nursing
-1 year experience providing direct patient care
-Experience providing transgender care
-Experience working in a college health setting
-Experience providing urgent care
-Experience with contraceptive counseling management
-Experience using Point and Click (EHR)
-Experience/competence with the following: CLIA waived tests: UA, rapid strep, UHCG placing IUD’s and Nexplanon performing abscess drainage and wound repair placing IV’s reading X-rays administering vaccines performing skin biopsies managing abnormal pap smears prescribing PrEP, PEP
-Excellent interpersonal skills, problem analysis, and decision-making skills
-Ability to work independently, using good judgement and discretion
-Ability to communicate and work effectively with a diverse student and university population
-Ability to communicate and work effectively in a team environment
