The Chemical Sciences Department at BSU is a close-knit community of students, teachers, mentors and scholars. We pride ourselves on small class sizes (capped at 32) and the individual attention that our students receive both in the classroom and the laboratory. Undergraduate research is an integral part of the program. Faculty members are actively engaged in collaborative research with students. This type of attention, which can be rare at the larger “research oriented” universities, provides our students with a learning environment that is unique among public institutions.
The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching in Physical or Analytical Chemistry and introductory Chemistry (lecture and laboratory).
The successful candidate will teach lecture and laboratory courses in our Introductory Chemistry (CHEM 141/142, 131, 102) sequences and upper level Analytical or Physical Chemistry courses
Faculty members are expected to advise students, contribute service at the department, college and university levels as well as engage in ongoing scholarship and professional activity.
A Ph.D. in Analytical or Physical chemistry or a closely related area is required. ABD candidates will be considered.
Also required are excellent oral and written communication skills.
Prior college level teaching experience is preferred, with preference given to candidates with a background in Physical or Analytical chemistry.
Preferred candidates will have a background in one or more of the following interdisciplinary sub-fields: Bioanalytical Chemistry, Green and Sustainable Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, or Computational Chemistry.
Candidates with experience or interest in using engaged learning pedagogy, and engaging students in research, are particularly encouraged to apply.
