Reporting to the Director of Building Services, the Senior Housekeeping Manager manages the administrative services and business operations of the University’s housekeeping operation. The Manager leads and directs the day-to-day operation of the Facilities Operations housekeeping program that includes in-house custodians, outsourced custodians and 3 professional staff. This program and staff are responsible for servicing the Storrs campus residential and non-residential buildings, i.e. administrative, academic and athletic facilities, totaling approximately 12 million square feet.
Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience including considerable knowledge of custodial operations, housekeeping methods and work safety practices.
Eight years’ experience supervising a large staff, five of which must have been supervising staff in a housekeeping or maintenance organization.
Proven experience strategizing, planning, and implementing custodial services in a large, complex organization.
Demonstrated experience to conceptualize and resolve problems of a highly technical and administrative nature.
Working knowledge of a CMMS.
Demonstrated experience with procurement procedures.
General knowledge of commercial cleaning products.
Must be willing and able to be on-call to report to work during emergency closures, inclement weather or for significant events that effect campus operations.
Experience working within a college or university, or similar environment, with a residential component.
Demonstrated experience using AiM.
Demonstrated ability in achieving operating efficiencies through technology.
Proven managerial experience within a union environment.
Demonstrated experience with State of Connecticut and University procurement procedures.
Working knowledge of management and removal of regulated material such as asbestos and mold.
Incumbents must be able to climb ladders, kneel, reach above the shoulder, stand and/or walk for long periods of time. Incumbents must possess the ability to perform the required duties set forth above and may be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) when necessary.
This is a full-time, permanent position. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with an hour for lunch. Salary will be commensurate with background and experience. This position is categorized as Emergency Support Services/Essential Staff. Must be willing and able to work during emergency closures/delayed openings due to inclement weather or for significant events that effect campus operations.
