The Language Technologies Institute (LTI) at Carnegie Mellon educates the leaders of tomorrow and performs groundbreaking research. Our LTI faculty and students investigate more than 20 areas of language and information technologies, routinely producing breakthroughs that impact everything from education to healthcare.
We are looking for a software developer to join us. In this role, you will be responsible for working with multiple projects in the general area of technology enhanced learning and maintaining and extending existing code bases written in Java, Python, R, and C++. You may also perform software updates and other IT related tasks as needed to keep project team infrastructure working efficiently. You will be expected to be able to work with open source packages for NLP technologies in service of project needs and required to develop curricula and materials for experiments where project software is used to support student learning.
Core responsibilities include:
Designing, developing, testing and maintaining applications or systems programs
Developing and maintaining user documentation
Gathering and providing input on functional specifications and requirements
Supporting business user questions/issues regarding applications and/or systems issues and availability
May perform other related technical support for the department or college
Master's degree in a sub-field of Computer Science preferred
1-3 years of Systems/Software Engineering and Programming experience, required
1-3 years of Operating System Administration experience required
Training in Learning Sciences, experience with curriculum development, experimental design, data analysis, and reporting in academic contexts
