The University of Maryland School of Medicine - Office of Animal Welfare Assurance (OAWA) is currently recruiting for an Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) Analyst . The IACUC Analyst provides technical and administrative review of laboratory animal research proposals prior to submission to the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC). Provides support and guidance to investigators from initial proposal review and submission through completion of the study. Coordinates submission and revisions with the Committee.

Perform pre-committee analysis of protocols; reviews for completeness and compliance with regulations and IACUC policies.
Begin assessment of laboratory animal use proposals, ensuring compliance with Office, University, and regulatory (USDA, OLAW, etc.) policies and determines when IACUC requirements of approval have been met and issue approval documentation.
Attend IACUC meeting(s) and writes detailed meeting summaries regarding ethical and animal welfare issues analyzed by committee and documents the final determinations of the IACUC.
Serve as liaison between IACUC and investigators.
Write clear and detailed correspondence to investigators.
Maintain clear and accurate IACUC files both electronically and as hard copies.
Ensure that ethical issues are addressed.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor's degree in a related field of study.
Experience: Four (4) years of experience working in research administration, preferably regulatory compliance (animal welfare or human subjects).
Preferred: Certified Professional IACUC Administrator (CPIA) preferred.
Other: Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Possess knowledge of federal and state regulations governing laboratory animal research. Able to perform position in compliance with all requirements, regulations, and laws. Ability to maintain high standards with the work being performed and maintain awareness with trends and influences. Assumes personal responsibility for all outcomes; makes effective and timely decisions; and learns how to effectively use technology. Maintains productivity and uses knowledge strategies to increase knowledge base. Skill in exercising initiative, discretion and tact, resourcefulness, and sound judgment with an ability to solve problems and make decisions.
Ability to effectively communicate both verbal and written thoughts, ideas, and facts. Interprets and understands written information and is able to listen attentively to verbal and non-verbal cues that lead to a deeper understanding. Skill in writing detailed, clear, precise, and grammatically correct technical letters, memos and reports.
Ability to work cooperatively with others and demonstrates professional, ethical, respectful, and courteous behavior when interacting with others. Capable of interacting pleasantly and positively with other to meet customer expectations, and provide follow up with customers. Skill in the use of relevant PC applications.
