Job Summary: Under direction of the Associate Director of Business Development and Strategy at Risk and Safety Solutions (RSS), work as part of the communications team to provide planning, coordination and implementation of strategic communication and communication strategies for RSS initiatives, with emphasis on mission-critical communications that have a UC and external client impact. Manage communications and communication campaigns from start to finish for Risk and Safety Solutions including target audience analysis, message development, issue management, communication strategies and techniques as well as business process and systemic issues as they relate to employee and customer communication and the marketing of the RSS platform and services. Implement communication strategies to enhance understanding of and adoption of the RSS platform, and to foster understanding of the RSS vision, goals and objectives. Represent Risk and Safety Solutions on relevant communication meetings and events. Review and ensure compliance with UCOP policy and standards in all communications.
Physical Demands: Sit at a computer/workstation for extended periods of time working with a computer/mouse.
Stare at display monitors for extended periods of time.
Lift and maneuver boxes of paper and files weighing up to 20 lbs. when conducting training (hand cart available).
Work Environment: Valid California Driver's License for frequent travel to offsite locations meetings, conferences, and special events.
Employee is personally responsible for following health and safety guidelines/instructions.
Work flexible schedule including occasional evenings, weekends and holidays to meet department obligations.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, in communication, marketing, public relations or associated field.
Extensive experience writing and editing at professional journalistic level, with formats, styles, standards, deadlines, techniques, editing and proofing copy with varying audiences.
Exemplary writing skills, including skills to use language accurately and creatively, to recognize and use AP style, correct English grammar, spelling and punctuation and use language in a variety of formal and casual registers and styles, such as academic, technical, news, hypertext and marketing.
Experience in message development, target audience identification and issues management.
Knowledge and skill with the modern creative production landscape, from print technologies to interactive media technology and trends including understanding technical aspects of production, from effective on-press analysis to formulating cost estimates.
Experience in directing and creating content for online media.
Experience in the integrated use of communication media, including print, Web, e-mail, advertising, social media, etc., for generating and distributing information, motivating target audiences, building relationships and gathering feedback.
Organizational skills to synthesize ideas and direction from multiple stakeholders, respond quickly, handle multiple tasks and meet numerous deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications: Skills to be results-oriented, possess an entrepreneurial style, and the capability of drawing on the expertise of a team of domain specialists across the University and externally and leveraging those assets to gain the greatest possible exposure with respective audiences.
Experience with communications and outreach in a university setting, academic policies and sensitivity to legal issues.
Experience working with or in research-based environments.
Demonstrated experience learning new software and web-based services quickly.
Demonstrated experience in supporting a communication or public relations program within an IT environment.
