The Stanford Nanofabrication Facility (SNF) provides access to world-leading facilities and expertise in nanoscale science and engineering for Stanford and external researchers from academic, industrial, and government labs across the US and around the globe. Over 600 researchers, in applications ranging from medicine and biology to fundamental physics and astronomy, use SNF's cleanroom and satellite labs that contain over 150 pieces of equipment for device fabrication. More than a lab, it's a vibrant research community.
We seek an energetic, experienced Business Manager to make an impact on SNF's research operations. As a successful candidate, you have a strong business/financial background, a fondness for customer service and a taste for entrepreneurship. You are hands-on team leader. You are proactive, resourceful, and relish finding solutions to complex problems. You are able to juggle multiple projects and be ready with a plan B to meet shifting priorities. And you are inspired by our mission: to enable a vibrant, diverse community of researchers who make stuff to better understand and improve the world.
In this role, you will:
Administer customer service: process new labmembers, from account set up to lab access; respond to billing questions; serve as primary contact point for the organization.
Manage business processes: maintain/establish/support financial processes, from revenue to expenses; coordinate with Receivables; communicate/implement policy updates; oversee operation of the stockroom and general lab consumables inventory; manage capital assets; negotiate blanket orders and contracts; support/respond to audits.
Facilitate strategic planning: oversee financial operations of our enterprise, ensuring compliance with Stanford's policies; represent our organization to School- and University-level financial administration; develop a budgeting system that culminates in an annual proposal to Stanford's Compliance office; develop reports and business models that enable decision-making.
Manage two fellow staffers (with position titles of Financial Accountant and a Lab Services Coordinator) in support of these responsibilities.
To be successful in this position, you will bring:
Bachelor's degree, ideally in business/finance, and five years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.
Excellent written and oral communication plus a willingness to share information and expertise with peers and lab members.
Experience in customer service and ability to work independently as well as in a team.
Supervisory or management experience.
