The Operations and Events Coordinator is the on-site facility contact and is responsible for the set-up, execution and break-down of the indoor and outdoor events occurring within the Russell House University Union organization during day, evening and or weekend operating hours. This oversight ensures that safe and well-executed events occur to support the recruitment, retention and persistence goals of the university.
The Russell House University Union is a 218,000 square foot student union facility at the University of South Carolina-Columbia campus. In addition to Carolina Dining, Barnes and Noble University Bookstore, Student Postal Services, Carolina Card, Golden Spur Game Room and various offices within the Division of Student Affairs, the facility features a 7,000 square foot multipurpose ballroom; 300 seat theater, 12 meeting rooms, and 4 outdoor spaces for use by the university community. Approximately 14,000 patrons utilize the Russell House and its various services on a daily basis, and over 11,000 reservations and events are executed annually.
Primary responsibilities include:
Oversight of room setup and breakdown to ensure proper and safe execution of scheduled events and activities;
Serve as liaison to campus departments related to facility operations; oversight of functional area and/or departmental programs as assigned
Supervise part-time student employees in order to provide leadership training and development for designated students and student organizations
Interpretation and enforcement of Russell House and University policies and procedures related to facility operations
Advertised Minimum Qualifications :
High school diploma and 6 years related experience. This position has been designated as essential personnel during inclement/hazardous weather and other emergencies. A variable work schedule is required. A valid driver's license is also required to obtain authorization to drive state-owned vehicles. This position will also support the University's mission and goals through participating in recruitment and retention activities, as appropriate, for prospective and current students.
