Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage protocol, amendment and annual protocol update reviews via timely communications among IACUC members, the Attending Veterinarian (AV) and the PI.
Ensure that program policies, guidelines and standard operating procedures are reviewed every 3 years as required by federal regulatory entities.
Provide regulatory guidance, member training opportunities and materials, and input to members on an ongoing basis.
Work with the ORC Director and program leadership to maintain compliant committee composition including member recruiting and appointment.
Submit annual federal regulatory agency reports and assisting the ORC Director with communications with federal agencies.
Schedule and conduct semiannual activities, draft Institutional Official memorandum, finalize materials and submit to IACUC and the Institutional Official (IO) on schedule.
Maintain program documents for review and audit purposes and purge any documents exceeding retention guidelines.
Interact with investigators maintaining an IACUC office that is responsive, approachable, knowledgeable and sensitive to the complexities of adhering regulatory requirements.
Understand the needs of multiple stakeholders; investigators (students and faculty) committee members, providers, and government agencies. Develops and periodically will reassess strategies for meeting customer needs.

The Office of Research Compliance (ORC) serves a customer base comprised of every stakeholder involved in the development, conduct, and mission to support research at UNC Charlotte. Research compliance is comprised of many regulatory requirements that on surface will seem to hinder research activity. It is the engagement with the ORC characterized by responsiveness, knowledge, communication, leadership, and a sensitivity to the complexities involved in the ethical conduct of research that will inspire excellence in customer service for our customers.
Each ORC staff member is expected to:
Interpret regulatory requirements in a clear and efficient manner across all aspects of the program.
Use compliance reviews as an opportunity to educate.
Be responsive in acknowledging submissions.
Lead programmatic committees in providing customer service.
Provide training reflective of needs specific to the needs of the customer base.
View changes and adverse events as opportunities for improvement.
Minimum Experience / Education:
Graduation from a four year college or university and at least three years of program associate experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Preferred Education Skills and Experience:
One year of professional experience in one of the following: 1) IRB office; 2) IACUC office
Ability to independently coordinate, manage and complete assigned projects in a timely manner.
Ability to handle multiple tasks thoroughly and efficiently.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and organization skills.
Strong teamwork, interpersonal and customer service skills.
Experience with an electronic protocol submission system.
