Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Laboratory Researcher III for SEBS-Plant Biology. This position reports to the Principal Investigator and provides technical expertise and management of the plant biotechnology laboratory, and ensures that research projects are conducted as planned. The position assumes the leadership role in research projects in the lab.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Responsible for the development of tissue culture and transformation protocols for different plant species, conducting experiments to isolate plant DNA, RNA and proteins and to analyze gene expression levels using molecular biology techniques.
Responsible for growing untransformed and genetically engineered plants in the greenhouses, assaying plants for disease resistance, stress tolerance and the phenotypes designed.
Provides reports to the Principal Investigator on research progresses orally and in written documents.
Supervises, trains postdoctoral researchers, graduate and undergraduate students and hourly workers in the laboratory, and represents the laboratory and the University at seminars and scientific conferences.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor degree in plant biology, plant biotechnology or molecular biology.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong communication and organizational skills
Ability to work well with others and independently
Must be able to follow university safety policies and procedures
Ph.D. in plant biology, plant biotechnology or molecular biology is preferred. At least 10 years of experience in these areas is preferred.
