Demonstrated leadership effectiveness working in collaborative environments. Experience leading dissection teams, and a variety of classroom methods which may include case-based learning, 'flipped classroom', problem-based learning, interactive large group discussions, and audience response systems. Additional skill proficiency includes utilization of course delivery systems (e.g., Blackboard), and developing board style examination questions (COMLEX and/or USMLE).
Nature & Purpose of Position/Usual Duties:
The successful applicant will lead a diverse faculty in development and delivery of the medical curriculum for gross anatomy (dissection based), embryology, histology, and pathology. Teaching assignment will include utilization of diverse teaching modalities in the delivery of a two-part gross anatomy course, and contributions to teaching in histology, embryology; and research methodology. The Chair will mentor faculty with appointments in both tenure-track, and non-tenure appointments. The Chair will oversee and direct the anatomy laboratory technician, and be responsible for oversight of a new anatomy laboratory facility. The Chair will administer the department budget and will organize administrative faculty assignments including meetings and faculty evaluation. The Chair will be responsible for participating in college and institutional committees, interviewing and selecting students, communicating with internal and external constituencies, and supporting the strategic goals of the college through programming and budgetary decisions. The successful candidate will provide positive encouragement, a spirit of cooperation, and respectful dialogue supporting a healthy and viable culture for learning and work on the SHSU-COM campus.
