The Department of Veterans Affairs VA Puget Sound Health Care System (VAPSHCS) and the University of Washington (UW) Department of Medicine, Division of General Internal Medicine, are seeking an academic internal medicine professional to fill a full-time position as Director, General Medicine Service (GMS) at the VAPSHCS Seattle and American Lake Divisions. VAPSHCS is a tertiary-care urban VA medical center with divisions at both American Lake (Tacoma) and Seattle, WA.
This position would be appointed to the full-time faculty at the University of Washington in the Department of Medicine, Division of General Internal Medicine, at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level, without tenure due to funding (WOT), commensurate with experience. This position would have an annual service period of 12 months [July1-June30] with an anticipated start date in the fall/winter of AY 2019-20. University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service.
The General Medicine Service consists of nearly 390 multi-disciplinary employees and spans both divisions of VAPSHCS and seven Community Based Outpatient Clinics. The primary care clinics follow the Patient-Aligned Care Team (PACT) model, which emphasizes the integral role of the Veteran in his/her health care team consisting of a primary care provider (i.e., MD, ARNP, PA), RN care manager, clinical associate (i.e., LPN, health tech), and clerical assistant. Care is coordinated with expanded team members as relevant, such as social workers, registered dietitians, behavioral health clinicians, and clinical pharmacists. Partnerships with Veterans, access to care, care coordination, and team-based care make up the PACT pillars. The Seattle VA Primary Care faculty are closely integrated in the University of Washington internal medicine residency program and academic division and are actively involved in the education and supervision of resident trainees.

The qualified applicant to the Director, GMS position will be a physician (M.D. or foreign equivalent), board certified in Internal Medicine (or foreign equivalent), and have demonstrated significant leadership, mentoring, and management in a tertiary care environment, as well as strong health care operations and planning. The candidate must have demonstrated expertise in the academic missions of education and research in an affiliated environment.
