The Division of Cardiology, Department of Pediatrics, at the University of Washington is seeking a full time Associate Professor without tenure or Professor without tenure. Academic rank at the time of appointment is commensurate with experience and qualifications. This is a 12-month service period position, on the Clinician-Educator track. Anticipated start date is Fall/Winter 2019. All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service.
Responsibilities include directing our acute care cardiology program at Seattle Children's Hospital. The acute care cardiology program includes medical and surgical cardiac patients admitted to our acute care cardiology service, as well as consultative services to the cardiac, neonatal, and pediatric intensive care units. The role will also involve individual general cardiology night and weekend call and outpatient clinic.
General Expectations: * Administer and operate the Inpatient Cardiology program in an efficient and effective manner * Participate in committees as requested by the applicable Service Line or Seattle Children's leadership. * Engage with referring providers and families to ensure that the needs of patients and families are being met. * Serve as a role model, leading by example and provide behavioral based feedback to team members * Work in close collaboration with medical director of cardiac intensive care unit to ensure continuity of care between units.
Clinical Care: * Provide leadership to develop, implement and evaluate the efficacy and safety of clinical care provided by the inpatient team. * Evaluate the quality and appropriateness of care by defining and communicating goals and performance objectives to all appropriate parties and regularly monitor, evaluate and improve individual and team performance * Provide oversight for the development, implementation and compliance with appropriate program policies, procedures, and standards of care * Define appropriate services required to meet current and anticipated needs of patients and families * Ensure appropriate coordination and integration with other services.
Planning: * Develop, implement and regularly review policies and procedures to guide the provision of safe and high quality clinical services * Work closely with administrative counterpart to develop and implement Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement (QAPI) plan encompassing metrics, trended data, and data-driven improvements to ensure the program goals are attained.
Regulatory: * Timely review of any patient safety events is expected. * Maintain a robust MM program; monitor for trends and identify opportunities for improvement * Give input to and monitor the required continuing education activities designed to maintain and enhance competencies * Ensure that the program complies with all legal and regulatory and accreditation requirements. * Oversee physician-related feedback or complaints
Research: * Look for opportunities for team members to become actively involved in scientific investigation (physician, nurses and staff)
Education: * Develop, supervise or participate to ensure the presence of cardiac clinical educational programs for acute care nursing, medical students, residents, fellows, and ARNPs.
The successful candidate will have earned an MD/DO (or foreign equivalent) and be board certified/board eligible in Pediatric Cardiology.
In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
