Job Description Summary
Manages Educational software and supports it's use. Interacts daily with Computer Science faculty and TAs, exercising independent judgment in determining how to best meet their needs. Analyzes functional requirements and designs and implements solutions to meet those requirements. Purchases software and services, and integrates them with each other and with existing Penn infrastructure. Designs and implements middleware when necessary. Explains the use of the software by writing documentation, giving presentations, and answering questions. Performs ongoing support such as troubleshooting and installing software upgrades.
The Infrastructure Manager maintains a shared software coding and learning environment for classes offered by Penn's Computer and Information Science Department, which are used by CIS students and non-majors in SEAS and from other schools. These students work individually using a shared software environment, practicing techniques using the tools and materials provided.
These courses share a large and complex software infrastructure consisting of home-grown Python and SQL programs and commercial software and cloud-based resources such as Codio, Gradescope, Piazza, Canvas, AWS, and ETector.
The position will focus primarily on the four introductory undergraduate courses and the courses offered through the online MCIT program, but will support all the CIS courses that use all or part of this environment
