We are seeking a bright, motivated, organized, and resourceful individual to join our research team at the UC Davis Center for Neuroscience. Responsibilities will focus primarily on research (e.g., Mathematical modeling, and Neural data analysis), including associated administrative tasks such as management of experimental data and software.
SKILL REQUIREMENT - We particularly seek applicants with strong computing (e.g., experience with MATLAB, Python or other programming languages, as well as stats programs) and mathematical modeling skills and interests in computational neuroscience. The candidate must have at least one year of research experience, and knowledge of experimental design and organizing and analyzing data sets. Strong self-motivation, as well as proven organizational and interpersonal skills are required. Knowledge of cerebellar circuitry and the vestibulo-ocular reflex is desirable, though not required.
DEGREE REQUIREMENT - Bachelor's degree in mathematics, computer science, physics, statistics or a related quantitative field.
RESEARCH 90% The incumbent will focus on the organization and analysis of circuit mechanisms underlying learned changes in motor behavior, including programming of tasks, data analysis, and publication of results. The incumbent will assist in devising data analysis algorithms and statistical methods to analyze electrophysiological, optical, or cellular/molecular data from oculomotor related brain areas of the cerebellum obtained from collaborators. This will be done using programming languages, such as MATLAB and Python - experience with these languages is preferable, but a clear indication of the ability to learn new programs can be substituted for this requirement. The incumbent will have the opportunity to creatively contribute to the research projects by proposing alternative analysis strategies, generating novel projects with existing data, and reviewing literature for manuscript preparation. The incumbent will be actively and significantly involved in publishable research activities, including reviewing journal articles and engaging in discussions on research and the interpretation of research results with the PI and others in the lab. The incumbent will spend a marginal amount of time assisting the current lab manager with administrative tasks, including the maintenance of experimental data from our experimental collaborators' laboratories and software, and the execution of lab events such as organization of weekly lab meetings and hosting visiting collaborators.
