Department: VET MED TEACHING HOSPITAL - 072105 Department Description: The Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH) is a unit that provides clinical case material in support of the teaching programs throughout the School of Veterinary Medicine on a 24-hour basis. Its primary objectives are to train professional (veterinary) students, graduate clinical students (interns and residents), and graduate academic students; to provide veterinary services to the public; to serve as a referral center for practicing veterinarians, and to advance veterinary medical knowledge.

Job Summary: Under the direction of the VMTH faculty, direct and supervise professional DVM students, Theriogenology residents and animal health technicians, while providing equine reproductive services as a clinician of the UCDavis Equine Theriogenology Service. Provide health care and equine reproductive services through the VMTH Equine Theriogenology Service to client-owned and university owned horses in hospital and in the field.
Physical Demands: - Maneuver/lift equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds. - Handle animals weighing up to 2000 pounds. - Contact with animals, including restraint of animals (sometimes fractious).
Work Environment: -Position may, at times, require employee to work with or be in areas where hazardous materials and/or infectious diseases are present. -May require working with or around areas with sick animals, hazardous materials, and/or infectious diseases, and distraught clients. -Position to be located at UCDavis VMTH, Center for Equine Health, UCDavis Horse Barn and occasionally client owned farms. UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014. Smoking, the use of smokeless tobacco products, and the use of unregulated nicotine products (e-cigarettes) will be strictly prohibited on any UC Davis owned or leased property, indoors and outdoors, including parking lots and residential space.

Minimum Qualifications: -Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from a recognized School of Veterinary Medicine.
-Board Certification of the American College of Theriogenologists or equivalent.
-Knowledge and experience in veterinary medicine as it applies to Equine Reproduction.
Preferred Qualifications: -Clinical experience and skills in equine reproduction.
-Experience providing oversight of professional DVM Students, residents, and animal health technicians in all aspects of Equine Reproduction.
-Interpersonal and communication skills to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere.
